DeepSeek Challenges AI Giants Meta and OpenAI;
Chinese AI startup DeepSeek has launched its latest open-source AI model, outpacing industry leaders Meta and OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT.
Dismissing allegations from major U.S. firms as panic-driven, DeepSeek asserted its dominance by offering cutting-edge AI capabilities at a lower cost. This competitive edge has propelled DeepSeek to the top of Apple’s charts.
A Meta employee on the employment forum Blind revealed that Meta’s AI division was in “panic mode” over DeepSeek’s rapid advancements. The employee claimed that engineers were eager to dissect DeepSeek’s technology and replicate its features.
Experts from Silicon Valley have warned that DeepSeek threatens the dominance of U.S. tech giants, providing a cost-effective alternative to current AI development.
Nigel Green, CEO of deVere Group, stated that DeepSeek is disrupting the global tech landscape and intensifying the AI arms race.
Meanwhile, Meta’s chief AI scientist, Yann LeCun, acknowledged DeepSeek’s rise but framed it as a testament to open-source AI’s potential rather than a direct threat.
Recently, DeepSeek announced a cyberattack on its system, leading to a temporary halt in new user registrations. The company assured users that their data remains secure, with registrations set to resume soon.
